Enthrone the Sacred Heart in Your Home

Updated: Jan 6, 2023

What could be a better gift for you and your loved ones this Christmas than to Enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus as King, Savior, and Friend of your family?

The Enthronement to the Sacred Heart is a powerful way to seek new graces. We read in Prv. 23:26," My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes keep to my ways." That is what Jesus asks us for Christmas; He wants our hearts. In return, He will provide us with a spiritual heart transplant so that we can be renewed and restored! This new heart will only be made perfect through the love of Jesus Christ. He wants to eliminate our anger, fear, grumbling, anxiety, stress, and disappointments. Christ will, in return, fill us with His love. We read in Ezekiel 36: 26, "I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." Jesus is offering us all the graces necessary for our state in life to be set free from sin. It is up to us to be open to these graces and allow Him to transform us.

During the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus ceremony, Catholics welcome the Lord into the messiness of life and allow Him to pour forth new graces of healing, hope, and peace so that we can grow closer to Jesus.

This devotion is often called "The Devotion" because it is Christ-Centered. Fr. Stash Dailey once said, "The Lord desires to free us from the chains that bind us from our day-to-day lives; indeed, it is only the Lord who can truly liberate us from sin."

St. Teresa of Calcutta used the Holy images of the Sacred Heart to enthrone the homes of the sick and dying in Calcutta. We, too, are invited to proclaim our faith in a new way this Christmas. Mother Teresa said, "Do not let the past disturb you; just leave everything in the Sacred Heart and begin again with joy." What a great way to experience a joyful Christmas and allow Christ to restore and renew your life and your family.

During the Enthronement, the family shares these powerful words, "Let us begin a new chapter for our family. What problems have I been unwilling to give to Jesus?" What will it take to start a new chapter in your family life? In what areas do you need the Lord to assist your family? Mother Teresa of Calcutta shared, "May the Christ Child find in your hearts a warm welcome to this world and an openness to receiving His love and Blessing." There is no better gift to give Jesus than your heart.

The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart is simple.

  1. Choose a Sunday or a holy day like Christmas to welcome the Lord into your heart and home.

  2. Select a Sacred Heart image. Visit our website to learn more about our images and offerings. Have your priest or deacon bless your image.

  3. Establish a prominent place in your home where you will display the image. Consider placing the images of loved ones near the image, to serve as a reminder of God's mercy and love.

  4. Prepare your hearts beginning three days before the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart. Start with the prayers found in the booklet Let the Light In.

  5. Conduct the Enthronement ceremony. You can always renew your Enthronement on special days like Christmas, Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday, The Feast of the Sacred Heart, or your wedding anniversary.

Sacred Heart Prayer:

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore You, I love You, and with a lively sorrow for my sins, I offer You this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to Your will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in You and for You. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.
